Figure drawing is one of my favorite things that we’ve done in my drawing classes. I think that the human form is important to study, and a fun challenge.
I got lucky with my spot in the room, and got a great view of this pose. The lighting cast interesting shadows on the model’s abdomen and legs. There was enough twist of the torso, and a little bit of foreshortening to make it interesting.
On the first day, my drawing changed about 5 different times. It started out too small and central on the page. I moved the figure on the page and made her larger, but then it wasn’t fitting the way I wanted. After a few tries and lots of erasing and some frustration, I was able to fit her on the page in a more pleasing way.
I really enjoyed this process, and the outcome. The last day, the model wasn’t there so I could focus on the drapery and the platform she was laying on.
